So far I've only been to 16 of Texas Monthly’s Top 50 in 2017. (Basically everything north of Waco.) Out of those, MAYBE a third really stand out.
Stillwater is right up there with the best of'em!
Great BBQ. Good side dishes. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced. Large portions. The Brisket Nachos are freaking amazing!
The BBQ was really good, but that wasn't the best part. I'm not sure if it's just on Thursday's or this was a special event, but it was all you can eat ribs for $14. That's a really good price for great tasting ribs. I ate more than $14 worth of ribs and my stomach paid the price. I developed the meat sweats followed closely by with the food coma. I slept for a good 4-6 hrs after lunch. My stomach was still full from the ribs and I didn't even need dinner! Great place for food and great people.
NOT THE CASE AT STILLWATER... The ribs & sausage too were both full of flavor and sweet, sweet, smoked goodness.
The bbq brisket and smoked sausage were very good. The macaroni and cheese with brisket was outstanding. The service was totally without personality. It was a Saturday about 3pm. There was one family there when we got there and a couple of people came in after us. They.out the closed sign on the door at about 3:30 and they ate supposed to be open until 8. Now the sign did say "or until we are out of food". They didn't look out of food to me but they were out of potatoes. Just saying you might want to call before you go to make sure they didn't get a wild hair to shut the place down!
Stillwater is worth the drive...... wherever you're coming from.
A lot of briskets are moist, have a nice bark, and a nice smoke ring, but fall completely flat when it comes to flavor.
Friendly staff and cute dining area. I had loaded tator that was tasty. Husband and son didn't care for the meat or sides. Son is doing Texas monthly challenge and almost done. Disappointed with mac and cheese. Beans were out of a can. Prices reasonable.
