I don't understand the great reviews. This place is below average. The menu is wonderful to read and gets you excited for lunch but then you experience lunch and it's a big disappointment. The bread is sub-par, the meats are sub-par and the service is very unenthusiastic.
Good selection of sandwiches and good salads
THEY DON'T HAVE A GRILL IN THE BACK! THEY MICROWAVE ALL THE FOOD! Do not eat here, they charge SO MUCH for their low quality, low effort, frozen food! If you call them out on it, they are extremely rude to you, so pick one of the real places to eat down here for the same price, like Vagabonds, Abi-Haus, or McKays.
Good sandwiches, tasty salads, quick and personable service. Love the vintage movie-posters and the Abilene Underpasses art work by Dub Wellborn. Be sure to get there early if you plan to eat there at noon, as Bogie's is a very popular downtown lunch time meeting place most often having nearly a continuous line of folks waiting to order.
We made two visits here. The first visit was the night of the Christmas parade. It was busy, the lady at the counter made it obvious she didn't want to be there and they are not usually open in the evening. I ordered The Boagie's Hoagie which is a disgrace to hoagies everywhere. It was reminiscent of public school lunch room sandwiches. With this being said, I really like to support local business so I decided to give this place another go. The second time we went was last week (end of February.) I ordered The Oklahoma Kid. How could you go wrong as the ingredients are so simple, right? First, the bread is not sourdough. It's bland white bread cut to resemble sourdough. Second, the chicken was awful. It was plain- unseasoned and very tough. The dressing was bottled (not hard to make, ya know.) The avocado was the best part of this sandwich. We received unenthusiastic service yet again (different person at the counter) so that pretty much seals the deal. We will not be back!
Really cute place, seemed like a local favorite. If you're passing through, get off the highway strip and check it out.
